QuickBooks + Microsoft Teams

QuickBooks answers inside Microsoft Teams

A question in a department channel usually means waiting on finance. Mention Kipper and the answer lands in the thread.

Kipper connects to your QuickBooks company file and answers from inside Microsoft Teams, in the channels your departments already use. It reads invoices, payments, bills, bill payments, purchase orders, inventory and the customer and vendor records behind them, plus supported financial reports and report lines: the Trial Balance, P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statement. It can break a total down by Class. Either edition of QuickBooks can sit behind it, Online or Desktop.

Kipper puts QuickBooks answers inside Microsoft Teams. Neither Intuit nor Microsoft publishes a native QuickBooks app for Teams, so Kipper connects the two directly: a Microsoft 365 administrator approves it once, Kipper installs it into your tenant, and from then on anyone you have approved can mention Kipper in a channel or message it privately. The QuickBooks connection is read-only, each answer is scoped to the permissions of the person who asked, and every question is written to an audit log.

Answers arrive in the channel that asked, in a few seconds

No QuickBooks seat for anyone who only needs to look

Scoped to the person asking, not to the channel

Read-only, so nothing in QuickBooks can be changed

Two different jobs

There is no native QuickBooks app for Microsoft Teams, so everything goes through a third party

Neither Intuit nor Microsoft publishes one, which is why every result for this search belongs to somebody else. The options split into two groups. One wires a chosen event to a message, so what the channel learns was fixed when the flow was built. The other lets somebody type a question nobody anticipated. Plenty of tenants run one of each.

Flow automation

Power Automate, Zapier, Make

  • A QuickBooks event posts a card into a channel
  • Somebody builds the flow and maintains it
  • Good for: invoice raised, payment received
  • There is nothing to ask it

Kipper

A question, not a workflow

  • Somebody types a question, Kipper answers it
  • Nothing appears in a channel unless asked for
  • Good for: what is past due, what is due Friday, what do we owe
  • Each answer is scoped to whoever asked

What your team can ask

What a Teams channel can ask QuickBooks

Department-shaped questions, answered in the channel that asked them.

"Which invoices for Cedar & Co are more than 30 days past due?"

Account team, in the client channel

"What bills are due before Friday?"

Department manager planning payments

"Does Larkspur Interiors have anything unpaid?"

Customer success, before a renewal call

"What did we invoice for Class North last month?"

Regional manager in their own channel

"How many units of SKU 2208 are on hand?"

Store supervisor in the operations channel

"Which purchase orders for Halden Freight are still open?"

Procurement, in the supply channel

"Are there credit memos on the Cedar & Co account?"

Billing dispute in the support channel

"What is our total open AR right now?"

Executive assistant before a leadership meeting

See it answer a QuickBooks question for real.

Who it's for

Who asks QuickBooks from a Teams channel

Client account team

Check what a client still owes from inside that client's own channel, before a review call.

Department manager

See which bills land before Friday without opening QuickBooks or messaging finance.

Customer success manager

Find out whether a renewing account has anything outstanding before the conversation starts.

Project lead

Pull invoiced totals for their own Class, in the project channel, without waiting on a report.

Store supervisor

Check stock on a SKU and the purchase orders raised against it from the operations channel.

Executive assistant

Get a single open AR or AP figure before a leadership meeting, in the time it takes to type it.

Pricing

$5 a month for each extra person who asks

QuickBooks plans start at $200 a month with 10 active users included, then $5 for each additional active user. Billing follows the people who actually ask a question that month, so a quiet month costs less.

  • 2,000 questions a month included
  • Free 14-day trial with 100 questions
  • No credit card required to start
  • Month to month, no long-term commitment

How it works

How to get Kipper into your Microsoft Teams

Teams is stricter than Slack about what can be installed, so there is an approval step and Kipper handles the deployment for you.

01

Connect QuickBooks

In the Kipper portal, open Data Sources. Online goes through Intuit's approval screen; Desktop goes through the Web Connector already bundled with it. Neither route can write back.

02

Get Microsoft 365 consent

Start the Teams connector in the portal. If you are not an administrator yourself, Kipper gives you a single-use link to send to yours. It is valid for seven days.

03

Kipper installs the app in your tenant

Once consent is granted, email support@kipper.com and Kipper loads the app into your tenant for you. There is no Teams marketplace listing yet, so this step is ours rather than your IT team's.

04

Add your people, then ask

Invite people in the portal with the same email address they use in Teams, and give each one a permission set. Then mention Kipper in a channel, or open it from the Teams Apps tray.

We'll do the setup with you.

A 30-minute session: connect QuickBooks, add Microsoft Teams, and set who can see what. Free, no commitment.

Straight answer

What Kipper will not do

Worth knowing before you book a call, so nothing here is a surprise later.

Write anything back to QuickBooks. The connection is read-only and cannot be switched.

Appear in the Teams app store. Kipper installs it into your tenant for you instead.

Connect one Microsoft 365 tenant to more than one Kipper workspace at a time.

Post into a channel by itself. It replies only when somebody asks.

Read individual bank feed transactions or reconciliation status.

Close the books, reconcile, or build a budget.

How Kipper handles access

Read-only. Permissioned. Logged.

  • Kipper never creates, updates, or deletes QuickBooks records.
  • You choose what each user or team can see.
  • Every question is written to an audit log.
  • Pricing is the same on every interface. See plans.

FAQ

QuickBooks in Microsoft Teams

Whether a native app exists, what your M365 admin has to approve, and how people ask.

No. Neither Intuit nor Microsoft publishes a QuickBooks app for Teams, so anything that connects the two is built by a third party. Those fall into two groups: automation tools that post a card into a channel when something changes in QuickBooks, and tools like Kipper that answer a question when somebody asks one.
No. Kipper connects to QuickBooks directly and to Microsoft 365 directly, so there is no automation platform in the middle to build, pay for or maintain. If you already run flows that post invoice alerts into a channel, they carry on working alongside it.
Yes. A Microsoft 365 administrator grants Kipper the permissions it needs, and that has to happen before anyone can use it. If you are not an administrator, the Kipper portal gives you a single-use link to send to yours. It stays valid for seven days.
There is no marketplace listing yet. Once your administrator has granted consent, email support@kipper.com and Kipper loads it into your tenant. It takes the deployment off your IT team, and it means the app only exists in tenants that asked for it.
No. A Microsoft 365 tenant connects to one Kipper workspace at a time, through one connector. If you need to move it, disconnect the existing connector first.
In a channel, mention Kipper and type the question. For something you would rather keep private, open Kipper from the Teams Apps tray and message it directly. Replies land in the same thread, usually within a few seconds, with tappable follow-up suggestions underneath.
No. One QuickBooks admin connects the account in the Kipper portal. Everyone else stays inside Microsoft 365 and never touches QuickBooks.
That is how Kipper works out who is asking, so it can answer against your own permissions rather than the channel's. If the two addresses differ, Kipper cannot identify you and will not answer.
Everyone in that channel sees the reply, because it is posted there like any other message. What the reply contains is decided by your own permission set, not by who else happens to be in the channel. For a figure you would rather not broadcast, message Kipper from the Apps tray instead.
Yes. Desktop connects through the Web Connector that comes with it and keeps syncing when QuickBooks is closed, pulling changed records every 15 minutes with a full re-pull once a week. The questions a channel can ask are the same either way. PDFs are the one thing that needs Online.

Put the answers in the channel, keep QuickBooks in finance
